Our Daily Dread

Sarah and her buddy Martha road trip up from Olympia, WA (one of my favourite Rancid songs!) to start her locks with Becca.

These girls had some dedication; it’s an early day to road trip up over the border for 10am. Like, grossly early. (The kind of early I became a hairdresser to avoid.) Luckily they made it up no problem, and once we got Martha sorted for shopping spots, Becca and Sarah got down to biz.

Sarah wanted dreads of a substantial thickness, so Becca kept her sections on the medium/large size. Even with leaving the bangs loose, she ended up with over 40 dreads – girl has some hair to spare! You’ll probably notice the bright feathers she has too; they were installed a couple weeks prior, and Sarah was keen to work ‘em in. Good thing they had grown out a little; Becca was able to place her sections so that they would still be visible, and hopefully she’ll be able to wear them a little longer now than in just her loose hair. She’ll need to be aware of them when palmrolling, but that shouldn’t be too tough with the number of dreads she has. As usual, Becca-started dreadlocks look totally incredible – I cannot wait to see how they look in the coming months!

Luckily for Martha it was a beautiful sunny day, so she bailed on us and went to explore The Drive – a must for anyone’s first visit to Vancouver! She tells us the new Canterbury Tales (formerly Bibliophile) is a cool browsing spot, and if those sweet new locks weren’t enough for her, we think the Red Burrito lunch she brought back for Sarah sealed the deal on making the trip up again. There’ll be plenty more to explore when we see them again in 3 months or so. Looking forward to it!
